Here at Firehouse, we have a deep passion for making a difference. Each year we honor Make a Difference Day by getting out of the office and into the community to lend a hand. And recently, we were presented with an opportunity that was bigger than ourselves – the opportunity to be a part of a historic event and change the trajectory of an entire country. Enter, The St. Lucia Project.
As a part of the international service organization Global Volunteers, The St. Lucia Project is a demonstration project currently taking place in Anse La Raye on the island of St. Lucia. The goal? To raise the IQ of the village’s children and in turn reshape the future of this developing country.
To date, Firehouse has developed a logo, helped create a new website, established a social media presence and begun outreach to build awareness of the program. And we will soon be rolling out two educational videos to help spread the word even more. Our goal is to reach and educate as many people as possible with the hope that they will sign up for a two-week volunteer project in St. Lucia and leave their mark on the world.
This life-changing opportunity immerses the volunteer in the St. Lucian way of life and allows interaction with children of all ages to improve their health awareness, help them fight hunger and enhance their educational experience. If you’re unable to physically go to St. Lucia, you can still make an impact with the donation of an EarthBox, a pre-planted garden that can provide all the nutrition a child needs for a full year.
Join us in spreading the word about the St. Lucia Project. Visit www.thestluciaproject.org to learn more about volunteer opportunities. You can also follow the community’s progress and learn from previous volunteers on the St. Lucia Project Facebook page or by following @StLuciaProject on Twitter.
We’re in this to make a difference and know the results will be life changing, not just for those in St. Lucia but here at home as well.
